Frequently Asked Questions

Is Kodiak Herbal Indigenous Owned?

“Wii”, Yes ! We are a small company, owned and operated by Kalyn Kodiak, Metis Herbalist. Kalyn is a registered member of Metis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. We do our best to work with other Indigenous companies whenever possible, including instructors, contractors and those who provide our supplies and services.

I'm not Metis, can I attend teachings and workshops at Kodiak Herbal?

Absolutely! You can attend any Kodiak Herbal workshop, program or teaching that is listed on the Events page, or book a private Experience for you and your friends. We welcome folks from all background, cultures and nations to join us. It is our wish to create understanding of indigenous cultures and dispel stereotypes. Kodiak Herbal is a Safe Space, all respectful guests are welcome to attend.

What should I bring to a workshop, experience or event?

Each workshop, experience or event you register for will get you on the email list for that particular event. We send out an email to all participants a few days before the workshop, with a list of what to bring, time and location information, and tips for being safe and comfortable.

Please bring any medications or emergency medical equipment that you may need during an event. We always recommend wearing layered clothing to outdoor events, with one more layer than you think you will need (you never know when the temperature will drop). Bringing a water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, small snacks, a hat, good shoes and your notebook and pen are some examples of gear to bring along on a Kodiak Herbal adventure.

Where can I find your workshop policies, safety policies, return policies, etc?

You can find all of our policies, as well as safety information, cancellation policies and more at this link.

Will the Calgary Herbal Student Clinic be back after COVID-19 Restrictions End?

We are still waiting to see what happens before making decisions regarding the student clinic. We want to hold the clinic in a safe way for clients and students, and on-going assessments are being done monthly. Please check back with us in September 2022.

About the Calgary Herbal Student Clinic: The Student Clinic is a consultation with a clinical herbalist or an advanced student under supervision of a clinical herbalist. During a student clinic consultation, a small group of advanced students of herbology will observe the herbalist to further their experience in the clinic.

Clinical students are advanced students of natural healing who practice their skills with compassion and professionalism. Your confidentiality is at all times observed and enforced. All records are kept confidential between you and the herbalists present.

Does Kalyn provide private herbal health consultations?

Kalyn Kodiak will not be seeing clients for private health consultations in 2022, as she focuses on bringing the Alberta Herb Gathering and other projects to fruition. For clients seeking a consultation, there are many fine herbalists listed on the Alberta Herbalists Association website here
