Balsam Harvest and Medicine Making Festival

Leighton Art Centre 282027 144 St W, Millarville, Alberta

The sticky buds of the Balsam Poplar (Populus balsamifera) are the Medicine of Springtime. Used around the world to seal up wounds, they stop bleeding and relieve pain while preventing infection. The balsam tree really is Nature’s Bandage! This festival of trees is part herb-walk, part outdoor apothecary experience. We will steep our medicine over an open fire, from harvest to creation of a take-home medicine chest of balsam tree goodies, all in one afternoon.

Lii Bonn Michinn – Metis Medicine for Women/Those with a Uterus

This is an important time for "Womens' Medicine"/ "Michinn dii Faam", and of course for any person who owns a uterus - no matter how they identify. Everyone is welcome to this workshop, uterus or not. We will focus on the plants that flower in late April and early May, which provide some of our best traditional medicines. We will also celebrate the first full moon after the vernal equinox, the start of the Frog Moon.
