Balsam Harvest & Medicine Festival

Outdoor workshop, socially distanced in small groups. Please bring a mask.

Sun, Feb. 28 2021 – Follow the link to choose Time

Wound- healer, pain-reliever, sun screen, sour-dough bread starter – All from the Poplar family! Poplar is the Man’s Best Friend of trees, used by Metis & many other cultures around the world since the beginning of time. Working in small groups to facilitate social distancing, we will go on a hike to meet the stately balsam poplars (and other tree-cousins in the Populus family). We’ll brew & sample traditional balsam medicines over an outdoor cookstove. History & protocol teachings are included in this lesson, as always! We finish off our celebration by sharing a traditional snack of fry bread and rejuvenating winter-time tea.

Open Shop Saturdays: Feb. 20th

Open Shop Day is an excuse to get together for crafting, culture sharing and samples in a safe environment. We have mini-versions of workshops to try out, as well as samples of Metis crafts & goods and a full apothecary of plant medicines. Come, taste, see, create & have us answer any questions about the Michif and our unique styles of art & traditional medicine. Shop opens at 10:00am.
