DESCRIPTION:Lii Bonn Michinn Plant Walk in the Foot hills! The flowers of berry bushes\, trees and edible greens will be springing up with renewed energy in June! This is the best time to learn traditional plant identification skills\, and to harvest the last of the spring greens. As always\, this Lii Bonn Michinn workshop is packed with teachings for student herbalists and enthusiasts alike. Featuring teachings on traditional food\, tool and medicine plants of the Metis who wandered the eastern slopes of the foot hills. \nWorkshop Info: This workshop is designed for students of Lii Bonn Michinn\, however anyone is welcome to attend. There will be gentle walking\, up and down hill over rocky or muddy terrain. We will travel about 3km round-trip. Minors (<18 years) must be accompanied by a guardian. Kids age 4-11 are discounted\, please consider that this is a 3-hour event before bringing young children. No dogs on this walk\, please. \nParking: Park in front of the school house\, at the lower parking lot. \nWhat to Bring: Dress warm\, bring extra layers; wear boots or good walking shoes. A notebook and pen\, water bottle\, bug spray\, a hat or sunglasses\, raincoat according to the weather. \nPracticum/CE Hours: This workshop provides three (3) Practicum (non-clinical) hours for students of herbalism\, or three (3) CE hours for Registered Herbalists.

It takes place indoors in a commercial kitchen. Gloves and masks are provided\, for use during the syrup-making activity. DESCRIPTION:As late April moves into May\, Alberta comes into Flower Season! Spring is officially here\, and many of our aromatic plants are ripe for harvesting during this season\, when the strongest medicine helps the plant to bloom. \nThis is an important time for “Womens’ Medicine”/ “Michinn dii Faam“\, and of course for any person who owns a uterus – no matter how they identify. Everyone is welcome to this workshop\, uterus or not. We will focus on the plants harvested in late April and early May\, which provide some of our best traditional medicines. We will also celebrate the first full moon after the vernal equinox\, the start of the Frog Moon. \nWhat to Bring: Comfy cushion or blanket to sit on\, notebook and pen\, mug for tea\, pinch of tobacco. \nMore info: Pre-registration is required. This workshop is for adults & youth over the age of 14; babes-in-arms are welcome to accompany their mothers.  Masks will be mandatory during this teaching. Metis Herbalist Kalyn Kodiak leads the 6th annual Balsam Harvest Festival\, a celebration of the first medicine of spring.\n\nThe sticky buds of the Balsam Poplar (Populus balsamifera) are the Medicine of Springtime. Used around the world to seal up wounds\, they stop bleeding and relieve pain while preventing infection. The balsam tree really is Nature’s Bandage! This festival of trees is part herb-walk\, part outdoor apothecary experience. We will steep our medicine over an open fire\, from harvest to creation of a take-home medicine chest of balsam tree goodies\, all in one afternoon.\n\nTea & bannock are provided – please bring your own mug\, dress for the weather\, and bring camp chairs or blankets for your comfort.
