Traditional Balsam Harvest, 5th Annual

Sticky Medicine!

Sunday February 23, 12-4pm or Sunday March 15, 12-4pm

The sticky buds of the Balsam Poplar (Populus balsamifera) are the Nature’s First Aid.

Used by indigenous peoples all around the Northern hemisphere, the balsam tree has been revered and befriended by humans for millennia. Come discover the magic of the balsam tree, which has furnished Northern cultures with food, medicine, tools, art, forage, warmth & shelter.

Starting from Harvest, we will create a Take-Home Medicine Chest of balsam bud goodies you can use with friends and family. We like to sing while we make medicine, feel free to bring your drum!  See photos from previous Balsam Harvests.

Fryin’ bannock

This Festival of Poplars is part herb-walk, part traditional apothecary experience. We will harvest our medicines and make them over a fire, with fresh bannock and herbal tea. Kids of all ages are welcome with their parent or guardian, ages 12 and under are free.

  1. Good morning,
I learned about your Balsam Bud Harvest class this morning. I realize it is full, but if you have a cancelation list you could add me to it.
I can be reached at ##### if there becomes a spot open in Saturday’s class.
    Thank you!
